Tax Season Extended - The due date for federal and Oregon tax returns and payments has been changed from April 15 to July 15. The due date for federal 1st quarter 2020 estimated tax payments has also moved to July 15, but the Oregon due date remains April 15. We are still waiting to hear from City of Portland regarding their due dates. We'll keep posting updates as we receive them. A free extension will still be available to further postpone the filing deadline (but not the payment deadline) until October 15 as usual. The deadline for contributing to IRA and Roth IRA accounts for 2019 follows the tax filing deadline, so is now July 15.
We are no longer conducting in-person tax interviews for the foreseeable future. Instead we are asking all clients to mail or upload all documents or drop them off in a box we have set at the base of our stairs. We would be happy to have a follow up phone consultation if needed.
If you are currently scheduled for a tax interview, we will keep our calendar clear during that time so you may call and discuss any important issues. If you'd like to send us your documents electronically ahead of time, let us know and we will set up a folder for you on our secure file portal. Or just drop them in the mail and we'll let you know when they arrive.
Our focus for now is identifying clients who are due refunds and who find themselves in precarious financial position. If you feel this may apply to you, please call us. We are doing everything we can to complete and file those tax returns. All other clients are asked to be patient.
Under the shelter-in-place order issued by Governor Brown, Matt and Rachel are working from home, leaving the office to Garth. We have full access to our network, including e-mail and phones, but efficiency is reduced and hiccups are possible. Please be patient. Stay healthy and stay safe!
We are working on accumulating a list of helpful resources. So far, reliable information is sparse. If you know of a helpful website, please let us know and we'll add it to our list.
